The first thing you need to do is find the keywords you want to target using one or more keyword tools. You will find the best keyword tools at the end of this article. You need to know how many searches per month and how much competition you have for your selected keyword. For this article we are going to be talking about the Google keyword tool. Second, you need to type in a word or phrase related to your niche or product. Your looking for keywords with more than 1500 searches per month for best results.

After typing your niche keyword in to the Google keyword tool, you will be given a large list of suggested keywords. You only really want to look at the suggested keywords with more than 1500 searches per month and above. Once you have found these keywords, you then need to know how much competition your selected keyword has. Usually anything above 50,000 competing pages would be hard to rank for on Googles front page in a reasonable amount of time. You may be asking yourself at this point, how do I know how much competition a keyword has? Which brings me on to the next phase of research.

The best and most accurate way of finding out how many competing pages any given keyword has is though the Google search engine itself. All you have to do is type your keyword in to Google using “quotes” around your keyword. This will bring up only the competing pages for your selected keyword, an that’s all there is to it. Now you have your low competition long tailed keyword you can begin the SEO process. It will still take some hard work to rank for any keyword, however going through this process with your targeted keywords will ensure you get the most targeted traffic for the least work.

To conclude, your looking for highly targeted long tail keywords with 50,000 competing pages or less. Remember to only target keywords with 1500 searches per month or above. There are still many very low competition easy to rank for keywords out there that can bring you targeted traffic overnight. However if the above process seems like to much work to find these keywords, then I would suggest using a keyword software such as keyword elite.
